Extracted by Kenneth Brown from Ruby Robins' article on EARLY OFFICE
HOLDERS OF OZARK COUNTY that appeared in the October 1988 "Old Mill
Run." Ruby obtained the information for the narrative from a
Civil Register created in the early 1940s by Works Progress
Administration employees.
From 1841 through 1857, Ozark County included
much of present-day Douglas County to the north. Thus several
of the office holders during that 16-year period where in fact
living in that northern portion of old Ozark County.
In the fourth column below, an "A" indicates that
the individual was appointed by the State Governor, and an "E"
indicates that the individual was elected by the people in a
county-wide election.
